COLOR & SPACE #1: The psychedelic floor designs of Jim Lambie

Day one of our three part series ‘Color & Space’ features Glasgo-based artist, Jim Lambie, who applies brightly colored vinyl tape on the floor to create these flowing and absolutely mesmerizing designs. Using the contours of the room, each piece is specific to the space and is impossible to replicate. I love the fact that he focuses on the floor, something that is often neglected and considered useful only for it’s utility. It also allows viewers of his work to interact with it in a much more intimate way. While I’ve never had the opportunity to see his work in person, I have a feeling they would be a bit disorienting…in a very good way. We’ve included a video produced by Tate that that has an interview with the artist and briefly shows his process.
