‘Making a New Forest’ : Paintings by Lina Tharsing
These paintings by Lina Tharsing, from her series ‘Making a New Forest,’ are based on old black and white photographs from the American Museum of Natural History. By repurposing the images, turning them into paintings, and taking them out of context, their significance and message seems to change. No longer are they just photographs of men preparing exhibits at a museum. They now appear to have taken an ominous tone in which human beings try to recreate and repair the natural world they have damaged.
